    Bootable util Cd

I am looking to make one with tons of harddrive utilities, and partition magic ect.

I would like to have it something like a multi-boot hard drive if possible, that at startup using a boot.ini type file i can then choose what "boot disk" i want to choose.

Just curious if it is possible to do it this way, or if there are some already made images i could use or something.

    Thanks
    MD

I have one here that I made for dos utilities simply be ghosting a win98 startup disk to the cd, then copying files such as partition magic disk 2, spin rite, etc. to it..it works very nicely for anything that needs to be started from a dos prompt..I get the A prompt, then type in the exe for whatever I want to run

I use small utility what makes image files from bootable floppies, then write them on CDR...
All you need it's just only to make appropriate bootable floppy.
You can find quite a few examples on www.bootdisk.com
I also use Volcov Commander on all my bootable CDs - it is smallest brother (about 68Kb in minimal config) of well-known Norton Commander... latest version of that VC partially supports long_file_names in DOS...

i think i have it half figured out
I tried to use the ultimate boot disk, and that wouldn;t boot up from the floppy so i am gonna create one from scratch

Still looking for some way i could maybe make it have a boot loader, and select what boot floppy i want to chose from.

i know that is probaly impossible and technically un needed, but it is soemthing that would be kinda neat to have.

    thanks

I think you can probably what you want utilizing a config.sys menu system.

make the menu choices in config.sys
the choice you make is stored as %config% variable. you can then use that variable in the autoexec.bat file to call a batch file of the same name, which would execute the startup commands you need for that module.

heres a a fairly basic example:

it's pretty easy to understand if you take a look at it.
    hope it helps.

You can use the new versions of nero and an image file from www.bootdisk.com to make a bootable cd, then just put what ya want on it
