Compaq Presario Hard Drive Change
I have a customers presario 1200 series laptop (12XL400 to be exact). The hdd has failed on it and I need to swap it out. Its not under warranty with Compaq anymore, so I purchased a compatible hard drive. The question I have is where to switch it out? I've looked through Compaqs (rather sparse) documentation, without success. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and could help me out?
TIA all

I don't have experience with that particular model, as far as my fragmented brain can remember, but..in my experience hard drives are in one of three places. either under a cover on the bottom, sliding out from the side under a cover, or under the keyboard. The ways of getting at a keyboard removal vary, but often the screws on the bottom need to be unscrewed, or the outside covers of the display hinge will remove by flattening the diaplay back all the way and then pulling the ends of the hinge cover off. this allows you to pop out the start button/whatever cover at the top of the keyboard and reach the two screws there that hold it in place...just remember where all those little screws come from..put each size in a different container. good luck.
