better (UT) late than NEVER !!
I finally built a server that I can use for "dedicated" and finally figured how to configure the lan game to work and now on my 5 pc home network my kids and myself can play each other in UT!!!!!!!!!!!!
hooray!...this is fun....(except my son always kicks my ***) lol
I need to practice more....
now I just have to figure out how the hell to configure Q3 to play on my lan..
and then I am hearing about a new version of UT ?
(before I get flamed too much for this, hey? I'm an old fart and new to this game stuff)
I'm having fun with my kids.....

Congrats man. Sure is fun aint it? lol
UT2003 is out yes and you pretty much need a GeForce 3 in order to run it good.
There is a dedicated server program out there for UT2003 for Windows and Linux. (UT and UT2003 dedicated servers run awesome on Linux is the word I hear)
a good source for you to start at for all your game server questions and tools
You go there and you will find it to be an excellant tool. If you need any other places I can dig through the other links I have. You should be able to find a link in there giving an idea how to set up a config for a nice map rotation for Quake 3.
If it aint broke, TWEAK it!
When in doubt, throw it out!!

For Q3, I use QuakeIT to configure LAN/Internet games on my "server".
I've yet to find an easier method.

yes, you will have to find the port/s that it uses and allow them access
