Office 97 key file
Anyone know how I can pull the Office 97 product install key from the registry?

Open up any Office97 document...such as Word or Excel. Go to Help/About Microsoft Excel or Word...it should list your Product ID Number. Hope this is what you're looking for...

I couldn't seem to get the installation key number from belarc (sweet program by the way). Haven't tried aida yet. The key from the help file isn't the installation key number.

Why do you need the CD Key? What happened to the key?
The product id does infact contain the information you need.

Client threw away the case. What part of the Product ID is the installation key?

Example of Product ID: XXXXX-899-0957512-XXXXX
Here, your Installation Key is 8990-0957512. Give it a shot.

As an alternative you could download and run Belarc Advisor (free version) auditing utility.

USe the "universal" key"
.
Type in key 1234-1111111
Should work for most all versions of office 97
