PC Starting Problems
Everytime I turn my PC on, the power and hard drive lights light up for about a second and then turn off. It doesn't matter how many time I press the power button nothing happens. The only way I've got it to boot up is if I hold the power button in for about 10 seconds and release it then press the power button again.. It's not always successful and can take a few goes to get it started. I watched what it does when I press the button with the cover off the case. The fans inside the case spin as if it was going to power up then stop. When it's up and running I have no problems. I've had an error on screen when it has booted "chip not initalized. press any key" Pressed a key and then got "Chip not found. Press any key" Then after a couple of seconds sometimes the hard drive powers up. When I press the key again it boots up. I was thinking it could be the power supply not switching right.. Any other suggestions..

I would check the connectors for your switches and LEDs coming out of your case. It is possible that some of those have been switched around possibly the power switch with the reset switch and vice versa.

Either the power switch on your case is faulty or the power supply is faulty.

I agree, this is a common problem with ATX power supplies. If you have access to another machine try running off the PSU from that one.
