Outlook/Excel
We have a system with Office 2000 with a problem. There is one file posted in a public folder, an Excel file, that cannot be opened on the system. It pops up with an error "can't create the item". I've repaired office, brought it to the current service pack, deleted temp files and even tried the MS fix of deleting the Frmcache.dat file. Still won't open. Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you copy the file to another folder, can it be opened then? How big is the file? Have you run a virus scan on it? Whats the ownshership on it?

No virus on the file. Anyone can open it on any other computer other than the PC in question. On the PC in question, you can open any other file just fine.

Does the file contain code {xml, java} or an item created with an excel add-in that is not available on this pc? You could try repair and select "Run All from My Computer" or check the add-ins that are available.
Good luck!
