No Mouse on SP97V ASUS
OK , its has whipped me ,need some ideas as to what to try next. This %^^$#@#$#$ will not find the mouse. I have tried serial mice & PS2's , 0 filled the drive and reloaded , flashed the BIOS twice , tried a PS2 on an ATX form card. I have bypassed the onboard video , tried an ISA video and a PCI video . Memory is new Micron EDO ,CPU is an AMD 266 , no sound card installed. It did find a serial modem when I installed it , so I "assume" the serial ports are OK , maybe the mouse uses different pins ? I don't know what to try next , any ideas ??

What os? Did you try a usb? Was the serial mouse a true serial mouse or a ps2 with a serial adapter?

Fixed It
NooNoo , thanks for the help , in the meanwhile , I got it working. Apparently the on board serial ports were dying , I put in an old I/O card and the mouse worked ! Strange that it was finding a modem , but not the mouse , however now it finds nothing . The ATX form factor PS2 port won't work either. At least it is useable , although it will probably gather dust now that I have had my fun w/ it. Thanks again

Re: No Mouse on SP97V ASUS
It is an ASUS SP97-V SIS5598 AT motherboard, isn't it?
If so, check the COM cables - most likely you're using wrong cables... There are at least two different (and thus, incompatible) pinouts of that cable... Check it out...

Thanks Ruslan ....I think you are right on with this one . I wasn't aware of the different COMM pinout , but that explains it . Meanwhile I think I've burned the controller with all the screwing around...............amazing what one can acomplish w/ the help of a bit of ignorance .. Still a great old motherboard though.

True... I was running the same motherboard with AMD-K6-2-400 CPU and WD30Gig (with latest beta-BIOS)... Worked stable and fast...
There is also unofficial BIOS for this board, supporting any latest AMD CPUs and any large harddrives...

Yes , that is exactly where I was headed with this one until I found the port problem . I may still do it just for fun , the bios is already flashed to the beta bios , just got to get an AMD processor for it.
