IBM Omnibook 4100
Hi,
I have the above laptop sitting on my bench with a nailed HD. The laptop is a F1462W model which was supposed to come with a 4GB drive. However, the fitted (and nailed) drive is a 10.2GB IBM Travelstar. Now IBM won't tell me what the max size drive the BIOS will support is (they just tell me they only supply a 6.4GB....which i knew already!) and the smallest 2.5" HD from my supplier is a 15GB. Unfortunately its a Fujitsu (Spit!!) so i want to go with the IBM 20GB that they carry....but will it work ok in this laptop? From a few searches on the net i see people offering upto 40GB drives for this series of Omnibook, but not this actual F1462W model.
What say ye oh great Windrivers masters...will thou 20 gigger do justly work upon this Omnibook yay?
Oh...needeth speedy reply...have to order today...thankee!

There is a bios update here That will allow the HP omnibook to run 2k - I hope that it will allow a larger hard drive as well.

Yeah i'd already been to that page and downloaded all the lastest W98 drivers as well as the latest BIOS update (non-2k). I'll probably just get the drive and if it doesn't work then i'll mess with BIOS updates....just don't want to get stung on the drive if i can help it
Thanks NooNoo

The technology is of an age where 8 gig and 32 gig limits intermingled.
The worst that is gonna happen is that the 20 gig will read as an 8.

Ok, well thats not a problem, as long as it reads as something!
I'll order the 20GB IBM (not willing to chance the 15GB Fujitsu!) shortly then...as soon as i've finished chipping this PsOne, which is part of my sons chrimbo pressy package...its always a package nowadays....in my day we were glad just to have chocolates on the tree...
