Disable Novell Print Pop Up Messages...

    Tech Gods and Goddesses,

I have been wrestling with this issue for 10 months now.

We have a mixture of Win98SE/Win2k/WinXP machines. The 2k and XP machines use Novell's Client for Netware (4.83 SP1). The Win98SE can use either the Microsoft Client for Netware Networks or Novell's Client.

    The problem is this :

We have multi-use machines throughout the campus. Most login as NOMENU. When a machine that has Novell's client on it prints and has the Notify box checked, machines using the Microsoft Client for Netware will display a pop-up stating that the print job has completed. This is because Microsoft's client can't use connections numbers above 255 and will assign a connection number below 255 to that machine. This means that several machines can have a phantom connection number that will receive the print pop up notification broadcast message.

How can I get rid of this? I can't disable Event Notification Service on the server and while it is enabled , pop-up notification is ALWAYS available per Novell.

Short of going out and touching 700+ machines to install the Novell Client, how can I get rid of this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ken Pataska

    Try using the command

    send /a=n

    to reject all broadcast messages.

You may want to consider using the Novell client on all your machines as the MS client has this and other limitations that may cause problems in the future.

    Hmmm...

Send has been removed from our server to keep people from using it.

Sounds like it's time to get our Tech Corps to go out and update everyone.

However, if someone else has a quicker solution, I'm still willing to try it! (hint, hint, hint ;-)
