hey all,

i currently have one static ip with a router-to-router vpn configuration. we are getting new computers in the office with xp professional. we'd like to setup each computer to be accessed from home if need be using the remote desktop feature.

what'd i'd like to know is, can i setup our win2k server to handle multiple incoming vpn connections from users at home and then from there give them an icon to click on to open up their remote desktop on their respective computer? i'm assuming i'd need another router and static ip for this. is there a better way?

IMHO, I would setup on the router so that it would direct them to the right desktop based on the port they come in through the router. Depending on the router, you can just port through ports for that static ip and have the ports directed to the computer of that specific person. Make sense? It's pretty basic, but it should be the best answer.

ok... will this work along side of my current configuration? the cisco 1720 router i currently have is setup as a router-to-router vpn to our mother office. or do i need another router/static ip?

As long as you have 1 static ip you should be fine. What you need to do is setup in the router so that if xxx.xxx.xxx.001:3389 hits it, it can direct it to machine a and if xxx.xxx.xxx.001:3388 hits it, it can direct it to machine b. Pretty simple logic. I don't know anything abou the router you are using though. Not sure what you have setup for the vpn, once they connect to that internal machine with the remote desktop client, they will have access to everything just like they were there. One thing I would do is make sure passwords are strong and secure before doing all of this.
