Win2k and HP scanners
I have a couple of scanjet 5200c's sitting idle b/c we aren't supposed to install any OS based on the 9x kernel anymore. Tried them on both NT and 2k and got bluescreens on both. Checked HP's website, but their fixes didn't work...any clues? We have one 98se machine left and I want to get it off the network ASAP.

Follow NooNoo's link...there is a firmware upgrade: "This update resolves a problem where the scanner cannot be detected while connected via USB to Windows 2000 or Windows XP systems, but works fine over an alternate interface, such as SCSI or parallel."
Also, go here for Instructions on Uninstalling/Reinstalling software.
Let us know how it all ends up...Good Luck!

I'm connecting it parallel, and it seems to detect it, but I get a bluescreen once the hp software loads after bootup and login.
edit: Also, I can follow the link, but I get a proxy error when I try to download....

I believe it was an IRQL...and Win2k detects the port as ECP

Are you daisy chaining a printer off the scanner too?
Edit: Bingo!

I tried it with and without the printer, and I had seen that KB article before...I just can't get to the d/l now. I keep getting a proxy error.
