    Angry 120MB=720kB

    the factory installed LS120 SuperDisk drive in my Compaq Presario 5220 won't read 120MB disks; It thinks they are unformated 720kB floppies.
    Tech support at HP/Compaq said it was a driver problem and told me to delete the drive in device manager and let WinMe reinstall the driver on reboot.
    NO HELP!
    Compaq says support for the 120MB drive is native in Windows and since the computer was shipped with Win98 I have to go to Microsoft for support on WinMe.
    I found no driver avalible at Microsoft.
    p.s. I picked up this computer used, with a fried HD and no system restore disk.so I'm starting from scratch with no access to the original software.

    Can anybody help me?

    Is the HD working now? IF so what operating system are you using? Win98 or ME?

    Once you can get the HD working with a functional operating system, you can download the correct drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    There is a phone and email for support, so you might want to go that way.

    Just a thought, zip drives get very flakey when paired on the ide cable with certain devices...maybe superdisk do too.... how is the superdrive connected? Did you try it with nothing else on the cable?

    Compaq are notorious for leaving things on cable select, I have never had one of these things but they do have jumpers, maybe it doesn't like cable select. The user guide has a pretty good troubleshooting section.

    Is it being seen by the bios as an ls120 drive? (always assuming on this kind of machine you can find the drive settings..some compaq bios customizations hide them fairly well)

    Indeed-eee-doody !

    Some bioses have ls120 issues & can't work with another 'ordinary' floppy installed (but if its like it came from the factory there's only that) & yes generally they only work on an ide channel on their own, oh & yes driver support is included in 98 onwards...

    Do they make these any more ?? I think they've been superseeded by the ls240 .... I was never a fan - buy a cdr!
