Heads up on HP scanners - lousy software
Just a heads up for all my friends here:
My boss picked up an HP ScanJet 4570C. I was not aware of this, but HP's new scanners come with this strange scanning software. It is written in Java and it runs in a web browser. Not to impressed with this, we discovered that there is a bug in this software that HP has acknowledged, but not fixed. The problem is that running the pre-scan/scan preview causes a script error. HP's solution? Disable the pre-scan and scan preview! But what good is a scanner withotu a preview?
He took it back and exchanged it for an Epson 1650 which cost 1/3 less and actually has REAL software written for it.

What is with companies handing out bad software.

Yeah, a lot of HP Scanners use this poor excuse for scanning software. They include:
The ScanJet 2300c,
The ScanJet 3500c series, including the 3500c/3530c/3570c/3570cxi
The ScanJet 4500c series, including the 4500c/4500cxi/4570c/4570cxi
The ScanJet 5500c series, including the 5500c/5500cxi/5550c/5550cxi
I've got a Scanjet 2200c, and while it isn't the greatest, at least it has real software, and not some java junk!
