Floppy Drive Failure

COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT FLOPPY DRIVE FAILURE (80) MEANS. I DONT KNOW WHAT THE 80 MEANS

what were you doing at the time of the error? Did it pass "post"? assuming yes, what o/s is it?
have you tried another floppy disk, is it formatted? has there been any work inside the machine (i.e. dislodging of cables)? how old is the pc?

please give me info!

Disconnect the floppy drive and turn it off in the BIOS, if it still does it you're mobo's the probably the fault.

You are using the cable the right way? (header at the end of the cable with the twist in the drive, other end in the board) I know it sounds stupid but I see it a lot.

and simpaly make sure the power cord is attached, they are easy to bump you know.

Check all the cables that connect to the board and your floppy. They probably got loose.

Whenever I turn on my computer in the post part it will stop and say Floppy Driver Fail (80) press F1 to continue if I dont press F1 it will stay there. Yes I have tried another Floppy Driver. I have checked all the cables.
I am using ME. I get no power light or anything on the floppy

Make sure that the floppy cable is in the right way. Even if the red stripe on the cable lines up with the 1st pin on the floppy, reverse it. If that doesn't work, try the other connection on the cable. You could also try changing the bios settings. Make sure they say refer to the proper size and type of drive. Make sure that the swap floppy option is not enabled. Try a different floppy cable. Try those suggestions and let me know what happens.

And if those doesn't work, did it ever occur to you that maybe your floppy drive has failed?

Try another IDE cable, make sure connections are tight, if that doesn't work get a new drive, they are like 10 bucks.

Don't type in all caps next time it isn't considered very nice.

Ensure that the FDD cable is on both rows of pins as it is quite easy to miss the top or bottom row when putting it on.

Hmm...I started these forums with the exact same question earlier this year but can't find the post...but the way I fixed it was buying a new Mother Board AND Floppy Drive

Sounds like your floppy isn't getting the proper power. Could be a bad floppy, the power cable is messed up or set incorrectly, or one of the pins is bent. It could also be a bad floppy controller on the Motherboard, inwhich case, you'd definately have to get another mobo.

What they all said.
1.Totally unplug floppy and disable it in the bios. Still get the error? Bad controller. No error? Go to 2.
2. Do a visual inspection of all of the pins (data and power) on the floppy to insure that none are bent. Use a different power cable and reconnect the data cable.
3. Replace the floppy cable and try again.
4. JUST IN CASE - run a virus scan to see if someone whammied your floppy through a virus (seenit b4)

I agree with all of you I had the same error at one time and replaced the FDD and it cured the problem, BUT like the others have said it could possibly be something else.
