I'd check the registry to see if anything is executing at startup that it putting those icons there
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

    also check startup folder
a virus scan couldn't hurt either.

If nothing worked with the startup run, run-, runonce,...etc. use the search command in the registry and find what leftover of quicktime is still there. Another thing you might look at is to restore to a date before installing quicktime, if available. You also might have to delete everything in the Temporary Internet Files. Some files or cookies spawned by a web site could be forcing these icons to be there.

If your customer is running WinME, the fastest way out of this mess is to simply use the System Restore capabilities inherent in the OS, and roll it back to a point before he installed QuickTime.

    Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

Select a date prior to the installation of QT, and your problem should be resolved.
