Undelete vs. File recovery.
I need a utility that will perform the undelete function on 95 thru Xp and can be run from a Master hard drive and performed on a slave drive with the files being recovered sent to the Master drive. I don't know if this is different from a File recovery software program, or if I should get one that does both. I am looking for something under $100.00 U.S. currency. What do you suggest?

Tech-To-Tech Mod
I used lost and found once a long time ago and it was windows based. . . . . . . .
I'm not sure if it even exists anymore.

I still use that program and it works great! Recently I managed to sucsessfully recover almost all the data from the drive, what had been shown in Windows as "unformatted".
It is DOS based program, but nevertheless no problems with longfilenames...
But Kato2274 is right, this program (last version was 1.06) is now abandoned by authors (PowerQuest)...

if it's abandonware, what are the copyright / distribution implications.
i.e. would it be illegal to email techs and myself (would be nice to have in the toolkit again) a copy?

Download Link: Restoration
This program can be run off a network.
It works on all Windows OS's from 95 to XP Pro.
It can handle FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS volumes.
It is very small and can be put on a floppy disk.
It does not need to be installed or uninstalled to work.
The price is FREE.
Beat that.

Have you tried Ontrack Easyrecovery? I have used it recover data from drives that were fdisked and formated. They have a demo for download that will show which files can be recovered with the full product. It is $199.00 but worth it.

Winternals do a good recovery tool that runs from CD but its outside your budget at $699.
.Spinrite runs at $89.
Ontrack as mentioned do several good tools for file recovery,File reapir and data recovery being two of their flagships
there are several that run of floppy such as Lost and found mentioned above and Tiramisu.
You might also do a search for forensic tools but that is going a bit to the extreeme
