    Smile CAS 2 Question.

    Hey guys I am building a new system with my tax return

    AMD ATHLON XP 2600 /333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU $279.00
    A7N8X Deluxe $149.00
    512MB PC3200 400Mhz DDR Samsung $149.99 x2
    Microsoft Windows XP Pro OEM $134.95
    THERMALTAKE VOLCANO 9 cool mod $29.00
    enermax 350w "whisper" power supply $49
    100 Gig WD SE already got.

    and I was wondering. I am getting the DDR400 Ram and underclock it to DDR333(runs in snyc with FSB and Processor) if I do that would that give me head way to push down the memory timings to 2-2-2 ?

    I can't tell you for sure. It depends on the who the manufacturer is and the quality of it.

    I think it may work for you in theory..

    Guess it is a trial and error issue.

    I have on occasion used cas3 pc133 as pc100 and ran it as cas2. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. From what I have read the ability to run at a higher megahertz does not always mean the ability to run at lower cas. It is easy to try the opposite and I have tried to use cas 2 pc266 and run it at cas3 at 333 and it didn't work. So if you want to try it make sure you can return it if it doesn't work.

    Are you sure the Samsung RAM is CL2?

    I'm going to splurge on either Corsair or OCZ just to make sure no issues come up with the A7N8X-DX and I haven't found any Samsung sticks with anything else that CL2.5 in my area.

    BTW, as you see, I took your advice.

    Yea I guess I will just spend the extra money and get some CAS 2 Mushkin Ram.

    NICE Thats the basic system Im gonna build after I get taxes back.. only difference..

    Ad ATI9700 Pro.. vid card... I think my GF2 ultra is a little outdated... by now..
