Plenty of oil, natural gas and low sulfer coal (along with coal bed methane) up here. + geothermal out the ying-yang. Just no infastructure to get to a lot of it (no roads or rail). Makes exploration and development extremely expensive. Eastern Siberia is experiencing the same problems - lot's of minerals, hugely expensive development. The Russian gov't doesn't have the $$$, so they have partnered with BP, Phillips, Exxon Mobile, Barrick, BHP, Anglo-American to help develop their natural resources.
I think the US hasn't touched that supply yet because they still have their sources and why use your own when you can use somebody elses right? Anyways that's just my 0.02

Actually, it's because its cheaper to buy foreign oil than extract domestic.

No, I wouldn't be happier at all. I'm just discussing the irony of how the U.N. report will praise Iraq, while at the same time Bush is still accusing Iraq of not cooperating, while Iraq is defending itself against Bush's accusations with excuses.

And feelings are so mixed on the Israel-Palestine issue that I've heard some truly stunning reactions to Palestinians getting those weapons.
    Good post.

The fact that Sadam might give chemical weapons to the "Palestinians" should absolutly terrify everyone. If they used it on Israel and killed a large section of the population do you think that GWB or anyone could stop a nuclear or chemical retaliation from them? Hell, that could start a global war. That in and of itself is a most terrifying thought.

IMO, this is what this is really about. France built a nuclear plant for Iraq. Iraq has been importing ingredients for rocket fuel. His record shows he's willing to invade other countries in the mideast, murder his own citizens, burn oil fields after losing the war... The guy is a madman. What do you think he would do with a nuclear bomb? I think 9/11 was a wakup call to some people in this country. We are vulnerable. There's no doubt. Do we sit back and let the madman blow us up or do we take the offensive? I believe there's also a lot of intelligence on his development of biological and nuclear weapons that can't be disclosed until the war is over. Intelligence comes from operatives who will be needed during the war but are of no use when they're dead.

I found it interesting to read that Saddam is actually an atheist who can't tolerate the fundamentalist Muslims and fanatical terrorists.

This guy still has delusions of grandeur that are above and beyond, though. He and ol' Kim Jong are just plain nuts.

I think any Al Qaeda or terrorist link to Saddam is made-up and is all most pinhead Americans (of which I am one) need to convice themselves that this war is justified.

I've said this once and I'll say it again, it also relates to some other posts before mine.

Its not based on oil, get that out of your heads. Its the simple principle that he's openly said he would use whatever he could on us whenever he can. He's used it on his own people countless times as well. That to me is a direct threat and I'd be damned if anyone else wouldn't take it as such. Unfortuntely, everyone's feelings are involved now, and if this was 30 years ago, it would've been already done and over with, BUT that is not the case today.

oh yea, that'll piss some people off hehe
