Can't open desktop icons
Ok, here's the story: I just got a friends pc and when I click on any of the desktop icons, i get this message:
"Windows cannot find [insert the name of the file that I try to open here]. You may have typed the name incorrectly in the run dialog, or another open program cannot find a system file. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search."
First thing that I thought about was a virus. So I took out the hard drive and slaved it to my pc and ran a virus check. I found two viruses: w32.annoying.worm and w32.yaha.f@mm.
I've sinced deleted the files infected with these viruses through the NAV wizard.
I put the hard drive back into the original pc, and I'm still getting the same message. I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and noticed that only the explorer program is running, and the systray.exe is not open. How do I get this file back? There are no backups for this pc, so I'm kinda stumped on what to do.
Oh yeah, I've used the ME boot disk that I made for another pc a few months back, and still no luck. I hope i gave enough details, thanks.
user: "I'm having problems settting up my laptop. Can u help me?"
me: "Sure, no problem"
user: "Ok, let me open the box up"

No, it doesn't work in safe mode either, it only seems to involve the .exe files. Pics on the desktop are opening but the programs are shot. THe only programs that work are internet explorer, my documents, and my computer.

Sounds like you didn't quite get yaha gone... Read here for manual instructions
Check that annoying is gone too
When you originally cleaned, bearing in mind this is Win ME, did you turn off system restore?

Yeah baby!!! I originally scanned first, but I wasn't able to get into the registry, so I was stuck. The Symantec instructions were perfect, and the pc is back to normal again. Thanks NooNoo, and thanks for everybody's input.
