Quick time
Hey all, running win2000pro here and I let my daughter install a game-Harry Potter if that matters. After the install I have a Quicktime icon running in my taskbar. As I try to run as lean as possible (v-scan only) this little program iratates me! Can you tell me where to set this up so it runs when needed but not at every startup. I have checked the places I am familiar with, startup folder, in the registry under run. There is a preference setting if I right click the icon however it is greyed out and unable to be opened.

Thanks for the reply NooNoo but there is no quicktime applet in control panel. I did, however, d-load start-up control I read about here in the forums and that seems to do the trick. It just bothers me these programs that just have to make such a statement on you PC! I also feel like I cheated or took the easy way out using another software to fix my problem, thats why I was searching the registry.

Everything that can be disabled in the StartUp Control Panel can also be done manualy.
Check the registry settings in the appropriate key(s):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
You could also check what services are running:
Start>>ControlPanel>>AdministrativeTools>>Services
Be careful turning off various services as they could have "dependencies".
More information in regards to what the different servcies do and which can be safely turned off can be found here: Black Viper Services
