Wireless networking problem
Hello all!
Ok, here it goes. I have a Linksys BEFSR41 10/100 4 port router. I recently purchased a NetGear ME012 Access point and a NetGear MA401 PCMCIA Wireless card for my laptop. I hooked it all up, configured and I don't have LAN or INternet access with my laptop. I do receive an error when I hover over the status icon...."Data Frame Errors - Check WEP Settings"
The laptop can communicate and "see" the Access point, but the router only detects a "Link/Act" from the port that the Acess point is plugged into. "Full/Col" and "100" lights on the router are not lit up. I have tried different cables, and different ports on the router, but with no luck.
Are the Netgear and LinkSys products compatible??? If anybody has done this successfully, I would appreciate the help!! TIA!!

What OS are you using? Do you have a network pcmcia card or built in network port on your laptop? Have you tried it connected to the Linksys router directly? Have you tried pushing the reset button on the back of the Linksys router while the router is on(this resolved a problem for me that merely unplugging and replugging in the router didn't)?

Re-read his post and you'll answer some of your questions.
Is WEP enabled on the AP? If so try disabiling and see if the lappie talks with the AP.

Huh? Nothing in the post about the things I asked.

Techs:
I am using WinXP Home on the laptop.
I bought a PCMCIA NetGear MA401...but the laptop does have a built in network port as well.
When I connect the laptop to the LinkSys directly (via the built in nework port), it works fine.
I haven't tried the reset button while the access point is plugged in...

Gollo:
I have WEP enabled to 128 bit...I tried 64 bit and disabled, and still nothing.
Whats funny is that the laptop can detect the Access Point, but when I set the Access Point to receive an IP address via DHCP with the LinkSys router, I get a bizarre IP address (not 192.168.0.x assigned), so I manually set the access point to have 192.168.1.15 and set the laptop to a different unused IP address, but still no access.

Devices that are 802.11b compliant are supposed to work with each other.
The ESSID must be the same for all devices. By default Linksys uses linksys. I don't know what NetGear uses but I am sure it is not linksys! This is sort of like a workgroup name. Case sensitive and cannot exceed 32 characters. Are you in the same ESSID? Also check and see if you are in infrastructure or ad-hoc mode.

Ok...well I got it working (in fact I am replying by way of wireless! )....but to tell the truth, I am not sure how exctly it was done. One thing is for sure, I uninstalled the PCMCIA card driver, reinstalled and restored the factory settings on the access point and changed a couple of other minor things.....but it works. Now I am going to go thru each tab and write down the settings, and hopefully I dont lose my access!!! LOL!

netgear wireless card
Hi,
Did you get any solution about the posted message? I have the same wireless card and have been using it on a Windows XP system since almost a year. Suddenly since two days it's giving me exactly the error message you've posted. If anyone knows any solution I would appreciate a suggestion what to do.
Thanks,
Ioana
