Question What does Thoroghbred mean ??

What does it mean when an AMD cpu is called a "Thorougbred".

Also: Retail or OEM....I know the box is part of it, but whats the warranty difference?

the Retail box version cpus have a 3 year warranty, where as the oem cpus have a 30 day to a 1 year warranty depending on where you buy it.

There are 2 major differences between Thoroughbred and Barton:

    1: L2 cache size; Tbred has 256k, Barton 512k.

2: Barton has a larger die area - its die is more rectangular, to accomodate the larger L2.

Also, the speed rating system has been changed for Barton core CPU's, as AMD feels that the Barton procs don't need as much speed to perform as well as their older brothers.

    Thoroughbred

I believe also that Thoroughbred signified the move from the old Palamino core at .018 to the new .013 core size. The diffence is also a visible one with the thoroughbred being rectangular and the Palimino being square in shape if you inspect the die
