SB Live! issue in XP
Since I upgraded to the latest XP drivers for the SB Live! several months ago, I've been experiencing a very annoying problem with both of my PC's running this combo. On intermittent boot-ups I get an awful feedback during the bootup screen as if the microphone just got enabled. As soon as Windows starts to load it stops.
At first I thought I might be running some incompatible software since no one else reported this, but I recently did a clean install and this behavior manifested itself right away before I had a chance to install any other programs.
Now I'm assuming it's a buggy driver, but I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this behavior before I pursue this further with Creative (so far two e-mails to their tech support have gone unanswered).
Thanks...

Onboard sound as well that's disabled?
Before or after windows starts loading?
Tried booting with step by step?

No on-board sound on either machine. It generally starts right before the boot-up screen comes up, goes through the bootup screen, and stops right when Windows starts loading.
I haven't tried a step-by-step bootup. It's extremely intermittent on both machines. The only thing I know for sure is that it has something to do with Creative's latest drivers. If I switch to their older drivers or the native Windows driver the problem goes away.
I'm hoping it's a buggy driver, that Creative is aware of the problem, and that it will be fixed in the next release, but if that's the case it would be nice if they acknowledged it.

More like wishful thinking than optimism. Like I said earlier, they're ignoring me too.

weird question...but...isn't the sblive supported in win XP...anyways...i hate the software that is installed with the creative driver (BTW I use the sb live on this machine right now without a hitch with the native drivers)
This reminds me...if it aint broke don't try to fix it or make it better!!

With my SB live! value card I have weird problems if I use the drivers that come with XP, and the newest ones wont even install, but the last set that were out work just fine.

Hang on a mo ... are you a time traveller ? ... I have some sb live drivers labelled January 2003 ? Maybe that's the creation date though on my machine as I did label 'em myself.. but I don't think so...

Hmmm...
I just went to the Creative site, and the latest SB Live! drivers for XP are dated 7-17-2002 .
That's just about the right time frame. I suppose it's possible that there may be some leaked beta drivers available somewhere, but if there are I don't know about them.

Search by the CT number and see what you get

I just gave that a try and wound up in exactly the same place. I assume you're implying that you did indeed find a more current driver? If so a link would be most appreciated.
It figures that Creative's website would be as convoluted and difficult to navigate as the GUI's in their software.

It was just a thought...often the CT number shows you it was an oem card and you get slightly different drivers.
I do know that for a certain sb card, the asian drivers are the ones you need, the card should never have made it to Canada

I had the sb live 5.1 digital as a replacement for their audigy card
I got that terrible feed back while shutting down Windows, I had to unplug the mike
I am running a cheapie Aopen aw 850 and it is just as good as creatives stuff and a quarter of the price
I find that Creative is arrogent , Their software is slow when installing drivers and their sound cards slow down my system
I only have a Pentuin 4 1.6 ghz with only 768 megs of ddr ram
I am running Win 98 for now, I don't feel like phoning M$ whenever I upgrade my hard ware
Did I mention I was playing with Linux
Format c I'm givin er all she's got cap'in !!! )
