Post Sound plays ½ way then quits!

My delima, Sound Blaster AEW64, Have had the sound card in the sysytem for a yr or so, with no real problems, during this last week, I have evidently installed a program, that is useing my sound card and won't let the windows media player work! Get error message that another componet is useing card, and keeping it open! I've tryed to back track, uninstall latest programs installed, with no luck in resolving the conflict, I've D/L the latest drivers for the sound card. I've uninstalled the card (software) reinstalled, loaded the newest windows media player, uninstalled, reinstalled. Gone back to windows media player 6.0, nothing seems to work. Can't check to see if the media files have been corrupted, Player won't play. Question is: Is there a program that I can use to dianose the sound card, or find out WHAT OTHER program has it open, as far as I know, I only have the suond blaster program and windows media player loaded on the unit. Or is it just that the sound card has gone bad.

Thanks for any and all assistance!

The only thing I know of would be to press Alt CTRL Delete together and look for a program that might be using it. Try shutting down the task and then use your soundcard. If it works, then you at least found the program that's causing the problem.

Hmmmm. Just an idea, but you could always try reformatting. It's drastic, but Windows needs to be told who's boss every once in awhile. Once a month for me, just to keep it up to snuff . As for just "fixing" the problem, you could try deleting all the startup files in the Start >> Programs >> Startup folder; and/or also try moving the card to a new PCI slot.

Just to let everyone know, I have gotten the problem straightened out. The conflict was with the latest Windows Media player 7.0 and EZ CD Creator, uninstalled the sound card , and then the media player , reinstalled media player 6.4, and the same sound card and it works fine now!!

And A Note to PC Alien.mars.sun, I havent had to reformat this PC in over a year, (thanks to preventive maintence) LOL,
