There are several programs out there that will tell you the hardware installed on your machine. SiSoft Sandra being one of them, (you can do a google search and find the free version, doesn't give all features but does tell all hardware).

One thing though, what hardware are you trying to discover?

If its something like the vid card, etc... and you are using windows95/98, you should just have to right click on my computer, go to properties a select device manager. This will also give you the info to a somewhat lessened degree.

    For Drivers purpose

I do allot of work on family and friends computers and they never have the original disks or cant find them so instead of tearing them apart it would be easier to let a program tell me what hardware was in there so I could then find drivers for them

    Thanks

Alot of programs will just tell you what hardware windows thinks it has installed rather than what is actually in the system. The pgm Dark Millenium is suggesting is good at giving you the actual hardware.

A good one to use is Belarc Advisor. It fits on a floppy which is a bonus and will give you a list of the software too, but I think it just tells you what windows thinks is there. But if you ran it ahead of someone making changes then you'd be OK.

They all have their limitations... www.hwinfo.com get the dos version and run it from a boot floppy is also good.

This is terribly useful on older hardware too
