    Unhappy Solid High-Low Beeps

    What I have is a pentium II 500mhz Intel cpu/w/Abit BF6 mobo/ 512mb ram/voodoo Video card/soundblaster live, sound card/250w ps in case/CD drive/CD burner/ 1.44 floppy.

Worked good till just 2 weeks ago, when I turned it on and all I got was the solid high low pitch beeps, tried new memory, that didn't work,Tried different Video card and sound card, that didn't work, it won't let me get into the bios or anything now.

Please, any guess's what to try or do next or what the problem might be?

    Thanks Jerryn9ehp

Did you look up the beep code through your Motherboard manual, or go to Abit's site? I can tell you exactly what the beeps mean, so you won't have to shoot in the dark...

    Unhappy Uh-Oh!

Award BIOS only uses one beep code...one continuous low tone to indicate bad or mis-seated video.

Since you've already tried different memory, it's gonna be tough to figure out, unless you've got a post card.

The upshot is you can get another one for cheap!

Sorry I didn't have more good news for ya.

Is the cpu fan working? That high-low is usually a heat alarm.

    Unhappy Still checking

Yes the cpu fan, and both power supply fans are running and the mobo is spotless, no dust or lint, and yes it sounds like the heat indicator alert, but the computer won't boot up, and after 10sec the noise starts, and I can't get in to Abits site or I don't have the right site, and I tried 3 different Video cards.

P.S. Nothing in the MoBo book about beeps.

That is most definitely the heat alarm... here is the abit BF6 page

I suggest you try resetting the bios from the jumper on the motherboard (or is it short two points with the old abits...?)

Just noticed this on the bios page

Improve the CPU Warning Temperture funtion to solve Win98SE shout down problem that OEM CPU temperture was detected too high.
That might mean that certain processors are misread and the machine shuts down as a result....

Here is something for you to check on. I have seen this problem many times with an Abit board and especially with an Abit BF6. Check the capacitors located between the processor and the com / lpt block. There should be a row of caps in parallel with the cpu. Look and see if any of them are “bubbled” on the top, and not flat. Also check and see if this bubble effect is coming from the bottom of the caps. If it is, that is probably your problem. I have repaired boards like these by replacing the caps. Hope this helps.
Get me a soldering iron and some duct tape, and I'll see what I can do.

Even check the head sink to be sure it is sealed onto the chip, may need to reapply the thermal compound...

I tried all the above to no avail, so I'm going to replace the MoBo.
Thanks for all the help and repleys.

If you haven't replaced that mobo yet, I would just be curious to see what would happen if you jumpered it down to a 66Mhz FSB. If there is a true heat issue this will help.
