    W2k Install

Tried to install w2k (upgrade install over Windows ME) last night, and ran into two problems:

    1) W2k install kept hanging when it was updating existing programs.

    2) I'd backed up my C: drive to my D; drive in case the install failed (and it did). When I strapped the D; drive as the master and hit the power switch, nothing happened. No lights, no fans, nothing. This morning at 06:30, same thing. When I was leaving for work at 07:00, i hit the power switch again, and it worked fine.

Any ideas on both problems ??

    System config:
    WD 80 GB HD
    Maxtor 40 GB HD
Full tower case w 300W PSU
    Toshiba DVD burner
    BTC CD burner
    modem
    sound card
    ....
    This space for rent.

Upgrades are bad news, and trying to upgrade from an OS with a win9x kernel to one with winNT is double bad news

Bite the bullet, backup the files you need (and test your backup) then wipe and load up.

I kind of figured that that's what I'd have to do on the W2K install.

Any ideas on the power problem ??

Either your power supply is dying or something was shorting out your system... perhaps the second drive you put in was touching circuit to metal...?

Up at my mother's house there was a power outtage - less than 5 seconds... the computer refused to boot. Next morning I went and got her a new psu, got back to find my kids playing on the machine fine.... wtf?

I guess some sort of thermal or surge protection? Needs a few hours to reset? Dunno, where's Ruslan?

Don't think that was the case. I unplugged both drives, and still nothing. Hasn't happened again, so I don't know what caused it.

That's exactly what happened to me.

Someone nudge Ruslan for an answer....
