camera reccomendations
time for a new camera. the kodak 1megapixel model isn't cutting it now that I want to use it for more than just auction pics. I'm looking for a nice 3-4 megapixel model for around $200 - $250 if possible. additionally it would really rock if the camera used compact flash since I have a 128MB card I'm using in the kodak camera.
any good suggestions.

Without question, the Canon A40. Only problem is that it's being discontinued, so you may have a bit of trouble locating one. But it's an excellent 2.1 Megapixel that uses Compact Flash. 3-4 megapixels are a bit above your price range.

any thoughts on the Kodak DX-3700. I can get one for $200. it's 3.1 megapixels, but no optical zoom.

I'd take an optical zoom over megapixels any day.

what's the general consensus on the amount of megapixels needed for 8X10 reproductions? I can't honestly see us printing anything bigger.

anything in the 2-2.5 megapixel range should work then..and Macgyver is right..an optical zoom allows you to frame the subject to use all the megapixels..a digital zoom is just like cropping the pic with image editing software and is nowhere near as sharp.

I think I may have hit the jackpot today.

all the reviews I've read about this camera have been excellent, and it carries a 1 year factory warranty. I've had REAL good luck with kodak factory refurbs in the past, so I'm not at all concerned about the refurb status.

Looks decent, but it doesn't take compact flash cards that I can see

nope. . . . that does kinda suck, but everything else looks great so I'll just buy some MMC memory. it's pretty cheap now. . . . $46 for 128MB. I was going to give the old camera to my folks anyway (as they are helping to finance this new one - they want really good grandkid photos and my birthday is coming up.) so they'll just get the large memory card too.

Digital cameras.
I just bought a Canon Powershot S230 Digital elf Some time known asIXUS V3. It it one rock of a camera. I looked at a LOT of cameras this what a digital camera should be. Oh yes it takes compact flash cards up to a 256mb.
