    Dual booting setup

Ok, is there an easy way to do this...... ?

    Here is the scenario....

I got a laptop running Windows XP and a task that I do has major problems with XP. If I dont get the time reported, I get no paycheck.

I got the XP laptop the way I want it.

I want to dual boot between XP and 2K or Win98 (just so I can get this task done)

How ticked off would XP get if I create a second partition and made it the active and installed 2K or Win98 on it?

Essentially I am looking for a way around formatting my drive and loading 2K then XP..... just using the space that is left to install the new OS.
If it aint broke, TWEAK it!
When in doubt, throw it out!!

    welll.....

i can't remember (have not done it), but i belive that you start from a clean machine, add win98se (or win2k) then do all the installs for that boot version, (all programs need to be on the same drive as the os, so you can have a be-having laptop)....then load winxp to the drive that you want, (all the programs on that dirve letter c).

You either get a boot manager if you have to leave win xp on there, or you can, I think install 2k with xp and then repair xp.

Otherwise you are looking at format then the oldest os first...

I think NooNoo has a viable suggestion, as far as running the repair afterwards. If you have an extra HD and a desktop to test it on, why not try partitioning the drive, install XP, then 2k, then try the XP repair? This should only take a couple of hours, and you can do it during the evening TV shows. I think knowing ahead of time exactly what to expect is important here. If it turns out that you blow up the test PC, at least you didn't blow up the laptops OS load!!!

Noo has it right here.. This is how i boot.

I have xp on the prime partition, and installed 2k on the extended, when 2k installed, it replaced the boot loader with an older version. A repair install of XP took care of that, and now my laptop happily boots xp/2k (installed in that order)
