Do You Get Sick When You Play?
Chris_MacMahon posted in another thread that he had experienced Video Game Motion Sickness.

Nintendo even warns about it: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/man...cn_english.jsp
My brother recently reported not being able to play Quake3 for those same reasons and I dissed him playfully about being such a wuss.
Just this past weekend though, after a couple of hours of Descent3, I started getting nauseous and had to stop playing entirely. This was the first time I'd played this game on my 19" screen in fullscreen mode.
It came as a surprise, but I wonder who else has experienced this?
Any tricks to offset it or delay it?

My Mom does. Yep, she plays quake3, unreal tournament, and a few others. ..mostly with the kids but she does play and does get sick from it. It's probably the same thing with people who get motion sick. Blame it on the ear.

What refresh rates and resolutions are your games set at? Mine is at 60Hz.. if I set it higher than that it makes my eyes hurt, but lately when playing WarcraftIII, I can see some screen flicker,, very annoying!!

I used to get motion sickness when I played Doom back in the day.
A very powerful machine can help alot. Get the frame rate as high as you can. Turn off lighting features and shadows. Try running at 800x600 instead of 1024x768. It can also help not to play in a dark room.
I also think it is the case that some people are more affected than others.
I'm having alot of fun playing Medal of Honor and Battlefield 1942, and I'm glad I'm no longer having the problem.

Nope, Never
Unless I'm drunk....sickness is never a problem.
It has to do w/refresh rates. The higher you set the less likely it is for you epileptic peeps to get sick.

I too get very dizzy and sick if I play for more than 2 hours.
Almost faint or throw up.
It started happening when I 1st started playing the original doom II, castle wolfenstein and Duke Nukem, the old dos games.
I can't tolerate for more than 2 hours max before taking a break.
I need monitor refresh rates to be 75 hz or higher to tolerate it.
I'm staying away from the 3d shooter games. I don't mind watching my bros play once in a while because I can move my eyes away anytime.

Dude!!! Are you insane??? OMG, if I even glance at a screen set to 60hz my eyes start to bleed (well just water at least). I seriously have to put on sunglasses in order to look at the screen to change it to 72, 75, or hopefully 85+Hz. Anyway, sorry to go off-topic, but man-o-man that just made me cringe reading that.

Yeah, them games use to get me very sick, I think it was because you had to turn using the arrow keys and the walls and the like seemed to spin instead of the character. Those games really didn't give you much control over how fast you turned. Unreal made me sick too until I turned down the Bob feature, I set it so the character wouldn't bob at all while running. Decent 3 forget it, that game made me so sick I gave it away, same with Teracide. I've had no problems with MotoRacer 2, Q3A or UT2003, I guess because I'm able to control how fast I turn.
I never had motion sickness as a child, but them early IdSoftware games killed me. I still can't play them. I also can't play that game that has them dinosaurs in it, forget what it's called. Oh yeah, Turok.
