    See if your AMD chip was downgraded.

    This is cool. I found out my "Spare" Athlon 1800+ Thoroughbred b which I bought for $62 on newegg.com was downgraded from a Athlon 2600+. I used this site. It will tell you at the bottom if your processor was downgraded. Unfortunately you need access to the numbers on your processor.

    guess this would be handy if you're (a collective you) are confident enough about going through the procedures to unlock that athlon chip (much easier with the t-birds) and get some better than stock cooling.

    Personally I don't have the time to baby sit an OC system anymore constantly watching temps and worrying that every lockup / crash is a sign of impending doom. . . . . it WAS fun when I did though.

    prices are low enough now that when you factor in the money spent on better cooling and add in all the time spent monitoring and getting the system stable, it's probably a better investment just to buy the faster chip and run it stock.
