    Kyro2 vs. Ge Force 4

    Hello!

    Last week I bought a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 with a Kryo2 chipset.
I am getting a bit tired of it since it doesnt support all games and doesnt render in that good quality.
Since it costed 300 sek (arround 35 USD) getting rid of the card isnt a that big financial problem. (Even if it hurts to throw away nearly-new stuff )

    However, I found this card:
    http://www.computercity.se/Product/P....aspx?id=20758

a Creative GeForce 4 card which I might consider buying.

there are cheaper asus cards too but I've heard they don't like abit motherboards.

This is the PC the card is for:
    Abit KR7A mainboard
    Creative Audigy2 soundcard
    Windows XP
    AMD Athlon XP 2100+

I only play games on it (Renegade, Half-Life and a little Generals mostly) so I think that the GeForce 4 card would be good for me, or what do you think?

    Thanks,
    Bjorne

Well it will certainly be MUCH better then the Kryo 2 card "but" you will still have to put everything on low quility to play without a slideshow. Yep the game is that demanding.

Better, yes, gonna play the newest games, still no. I wouldnt recommend anything less than a GF 4 Ti 4200 or at the very least a GF 3 Ti 200, believe me when i tell you that the gf 4 mx's are a complete joke

    Go for it.

Guillemot's JKyroII GPUs don't compare to the nVidia chipsets nowadays.

If you can opt for a Ti card instead of an MX, it's worth the investment.

PoverVR (manufacturer of Kyro drivers) says to a Kyro usergroup that the KyroII will support CnC Generals in the next driver release! So I don't relly need a new card because they are making new drivers

    Thanks anyway

I am pretty sure after the next driver release you are going post post saying the game runs 1 frame at a time.

There's other people who make chipsets too ... besides kyro ...

Matrox Parhelia ? These are as fast (if not faster & more feature rich) as certain other peoples cards, don't come in 65000 confusing variants and have drivers that work ....

    MX = cheapo version !

Whatever you get make sure its optomised for direct x 9, there's hardware specific stuff in there that can only be used by direct x if the card has the features, no software equivalents....
