Java Virtual Machine
I have just reinstalled XP home on my rig and now I have this dialouge box come up when I load the windrivers homepage and another site , It basicaly tells me that I need to download and instal the "Java Virtual Machine ".I am eventully linked to Winodws update and when I download the update for the Microsoft VM I am told it will only update a previous version of the virtual machine
SO I am stuck, I can not rewrite the XP setup file to install it, I may just sell the XP Cd and go back to 98 se since it had no problem
This is a fresh install of XP home on an Asus p4b533 with a P 4 1.6 gig CPU, 1 gig of ram, 128 meg video card, Two 60 ig Maxtor Drives on a pomise 133 controller, LG burner and combo drive
I have de bugged my hardware, I checked the same sites on my 98 box with no problems
I use IE 6 but may be forced to use Netscape or maybe even Linux
I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and service packs, I even zero filled and reinstalled this OS, I am starting to really hate M$
Any body have any ideas as to getting the JVM , I have serached and M$ is dropping it
Format c I'm givin er all she's got cap'in !!! )

Yes, all you need is a place to download java
www.sun.com
It is a different flavour to ms java vm... therefore there might be some places it will not work... however these are getting fewer as people fix their sites.
You can try here for the ms version but many of these sites are being removed.

you are half wrong half right...
SP1 was released with MS's version of JavaVM, but after the anti-trust settlement, they released SP1a,,, the only change,,, the removal of MS JavaVM.
if you find something that seems to work better with MSJavaVM, your not outta luck,,, alot of schools and other institutions have mirrored the files such as here >>> http://www.biologylab.awlonline.com/ms_javavm.php

Hi there,
If you have the original Windows XP SP1 patch, it will have Microsoft owns Java software included. However, thanks to Sun's bitching about it, it was removed (which is now SP1a). You can't downloaded Microsoft owns Java software directly from Microsoft anymore, well, for the time being. I do note if you do find Microsoft owns Java software or the first SP1, you can update it via Windows Update.
Oh, I do note that Sun's own Java sucks crap. It loads way too slow.

Bad programmers SUK
Im sick of both java versions and the people that write the applications for them. @ work IHave suns 1.3.1 for my network managment software 1.4.1 for the browser and ms virtual machine for HP's toptools.
Someone should force a standard so that an applet would work on MS or SUN.

I have to run ms java to get my banking applet to work... other sites (and browsers) insist on sun, I am forever uninstalling and reinstalling based on what I have to do....
