[RESOLVED] I don't like chimpmunks anymore
When I got my computer I immediately re-formatted with the help of a friend, only to find that now whenever I have any sound play, whether CD Audio or Wave Output and even games, everything has a sort of "chipmunk" effect.
My Card is a: AC'97 Driver for Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM Controller
Using the standard drivers from WinME
Help please!?

I have experienced the symptoms you have with WinMe and the only fix I could find is to use the drivers supplied by the manufacturer. WinMe for some reason or another doesn't have very good timebase correction with the native drivers for AC9X sound with some chips.

I have had the same experience as Silverman..........I would also download the latest drivers from Intel pertaining to your board.

We had a problem like this happen at work. We get new computers in and then image them from other computers exactly like them. Someone called in and said that Metallica was sounding like the chipmunks. Problem with that was that something had happened to the sound driver when it was installed on the image. Reinstalling the sound drivers fixed the problem. All the machines that were imaged with that particular image had to have the drivers reinstalled...

Geezer
It's 'cos the ac97 chip uses software buffers, if new drivers don't fix it try getting me using all it's ram first before accessing the swap file, read this:

Usually does the trick.
