    Angry Empty Attachments

One of my users has a bizarre problem on Outlook XP. She receives an email every day from a listserv that has written contributions as attachments.

The weird part is recently we migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2k. Now, when she tries to view these message attachments, they are completely empty. It's not like they are missing, they're present...just empty of any text.

I forwarded the message from her machine to mine which has the same software, configured (afaik) the same way and I can open and view the text in the attachment just fine.

It's *not* the security blocking issue, as I've already patched that and can send her .exe's if I so choose. It's simply that the text in the attachments are flat out missing.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I actually voted for John Kerry, before I voted against him.

Since my original post, I wiped the machine completely clean and made a fresh install of XP and Office XP. I could view attachments again.

However, as soon as I installed her anti-virus, they dissapeared again. Very odd that. I have same anti-virus, with same options on my machine. So, I disabled email scanning at her PC and the attachments came back. Not a good solution, but hey, at that point it was whatever worked.

I think you need the corporate version of the email scanner for it to work with outlook/exchange ...AVG free personal edition is designed to work with outlook express .... see here ... I think its fair to assume any version of outlook?

I am as ever confus-ed , as you have another machine where it works, unless there's some difference somewheres - are you both using the same e-mail client?

Yah, that is the confusing part as we have 14 machines that are all identically configured and operate just fine with the AVG and attachments.

The AVG really is just an afterthought and another level of protection for us as we have a corporate A.V. on the exchange server. Using the AVG has never been an issue until now.
