    Stupid User Questions

Today I have heard the dumbest thing ever stated by someone in our shop.

We sold him this used PC...Dell 400mzh/128mb ram yada yada yada

Anyway...after an eternity of just trying to get this guy to understand how windows works....

He comes in today and asks me the question.....

"Is it okay for me to install programs?"

Im sorry...i have some understanding....but some people just shouldnt own a computer

Actually that may be a valid question, if he actually read the terms and conditions of his warranty, it may cast doubt on whether he is allowed to!

    yea yea I know

but still.....I guess it was the context of the situation....

To me....it seemed like he felt he didnt even own the computer....

I wish they offered more classes for people so they didnt seem so intimidated

At least this guy wasn't a skeptical person who loves to 2nd guess what you tell him.

We had one customer always asking "Are You Sure About That?" everytime we told him to try this, do that etc.

I sometimes have to work on POS systems at the airport...getting tools into that place is a nightmare. I had a security monkey say "I took two semesters of computer science, and I can tell you for sure these aren't anything you would work on computers with"

    Farking idiot.

That was immediately after another guy stuck is foot firmly in his mouth by speaking Spanish to the dark-skinned woman in front of me.....boy, was she pissed.

Also if the machine is running Windows NT/2000 he may not have proper rights to install applications.

At least he asked. Better that than he install a resource hog like Gator or a big gaping security hole like Kazaa.

You are right about the computer training. Most of the big chains like CompUSA offer in store computer training. That is a very lucrative business. I know a few shops in my area that get upwards of $40/hour just to show people how to use Windows, Internet, email, Word, etc.

Some even took the time to write their own CBTs in Flash and sell them with each computer purchase.

Sometimes the classes just further intimidate people. At my first job as a corporate trainer, one of my co-worker's computer skills was just barely above the average user. I sat in on one of her classes once and saw the sorry situation. She only knew exactly what was in her notes. If someone asked a question, she most likely did not know the answer. Rather than admitting she did not know, she would do her best to make the student look like a complete idiot for even asking. I felt so bad for the students.

We got one here that is about to be doing classes for word and excel. What is her qualifications? well she has certificates up in her cube from taking the advanced classes at Compusa. I am so freaking scared, but she is hot so I am not saying anything.

    My best stoopid user question:

"If I delete e-mail from my Sent Items folder, will it delete off the other person's Inbox?"
