    Boot Menu When Booting

P4 1.4G, 256RAM, 40GB HD, Win98. When I boot the PC I get the Boot Menu (options for booting up normal, safe mode, command prompt, etc). Also when I boot to normal mode it get 16 colors only. It has the option to change the colors but it will not allow me to change them. I have reinstalled Win98 (without formatting), and I have reinstalled the video driver. Any suggestions?

    THANKS

OK, lets start with a few details

What video card do you have, or is it onboard?

What motherboard do you have - specifically interested in what chipset?

What driver did you download/use for your video card?

The fact that it is booting to the boot menu each time means one of two things... the video card/driver is bad and causing windows to go to safe mode or you have got a setting in the boot menu stuck see here to correct the setting

If you correct the boot menu problem and it STILL reverts to the boot menu you have definitely got a video card or video driver problem.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
