[RESOLVED] XP Pro & IE6 not showing history
Hi All,
Running XP Pro O/S with IE 6.0, but can't seem to trace Internet History. No record of where you have been surfing thru' the gui, or if you nav to tempory internet files folder.
Any Ideas?
Most people are are happy with this, but have some clients that do use the Internet History.
Cheers

I have the same issue with XP/IE6 SP1 at work, multiple users with the same problem.
Changing the "days to keep History" didn't have any effect, though. Switched it from 12, to zero, then experimented with 7,14,21 days, no luck.
In our case, History may not display at all, or you'll see just the entries from the current session...close IE and reopen, and it's a clean slate again.
Hoping someone out there has an answer for this....can't find anything obvious, even went thru Registry settings, checked all XP services, the works.
MS hasn't responded so far...don't really expect them to.

The machines wouldn't be running TweakUI would they?
I ask because TweakUI has an option of clearing out "History".

Nope.
We have TweakUI running on older PC's on our nursing units to help keep the drives clean, but the users in this case do not have it installed.

I get a listing for the last dozen or so sites I visited...only way to display them is click the "down arrow" in the Address bar in IE, or if the History window is open I have to use the "by most visted" option to see anything.
If I "view by date", then all I see is what's happened in the current session...looks like it gets purged on exit.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer
do you have a controlpanel key under that? - it may contain history settings.

Could very well be that, except for the fact that the workstations in question are "vanilla" XP Pro installs, IE6SP1, OfficeXP, HBOwem terminal emulator, TrackIt Remote, and Citrix.
Even checked for spyware/malware that may be doing it, that search came up empty.
History.dat doesn't even exist!!!! (how's that for a twist!)

Nope. Only two items \Software\Policies\Microsoft, SystemCertificates and Windows
SystemCertificates has 4 sub-folders: ca, Disallowed, trust, TrustedPublisher.
Windows has one folder: System, with a key of ExcludeProfileDirs

my bad, its called index.dat in the history folder....
Interesting snippet I found, in the mskb on older versions, apparently special characters in the user name screws up the history file.
Otherwise did you check that reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte
rnet Explorer\controlpanel\history
If its set to 0 no history can be changed.
