What would you do in this case?
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out what I'd do...perhaps someone here can suggest a course of action.
My boss and her hubby are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary mid next month. They're going away to a resort for a week, and I was going to buy them a bottle of champagne w/ a couple of glasses, to take with them, to help celebrate.
Now, his mom is very sick. She may not last very long. If things take a turn for the worse, they may cancel their trip. Or, they may decide to go just to get away for some well needed rest.
If something were to happen, sympathy flowers would certainly be in order... there's no question about that. What would you do about their anniversary? A bottle of champagne would be very inappropriate to give at such a time, if she passes. I'm at a loss....
Suggestions??
Life is short - Eat dessert first! mmmm... cake

I could care less for my boss, as my boss has shown absolutly no interest in me. I would make myself a voodoo doll in my boss's resemblance though.
But if you really like the boss, then just get the bottle. If the mom dies, then throw in the flowers later. Just make sure to attach a card to both.

...and don't mix them up!
I would celebrate their anniversary on its own also.

Thanks for the replys
Yeah, I want to buy them the bottle, but if the mom passes just before their anniversary, what would you do then? Wait a while before you give it? Or just send sympathy flowers and only give an low key anniversary card? This is where I'm stuck.

You buy it, and if the worst happens, you explain that you wanted to wish them a happy anniversary and you know it's not appropriate right now, but thats the great thing about champagne, it'll keep for a while

If this happens I would send the flowers and the low key card SEPERATLY. Then when you see him in the office like the next day or whenever give him the bottle.

Thank you all so much for your help....it was very much appreciated!!
I think I'll buy the bottle & glasses, just in case.
If his mom passes, I'll send sympathy flowers and keep the bubbly on ice for a while and give it another time.
If she doesn't pass before their anniversary, I'll give the champagne.
It's a tough call, but with your help, it's done.
Thanks again!

If her mother dies and they cancel the trip, give the card and YOU drink the champagne. They probably won't be going away anyway.
boom, done.

Well, it doesn't matter anymore. My boss's mother-in-law passed away last night.
3 weeks before their anniversary, so I guess I'll just play it by ear and see how things go.
Thanks again everyone...much appreciated.
