expert option needed :O)
Hey guys i have a presario 6000series
AMD athlonXP 1800 (1.53GHz)
512MB DDR
60GB UltraDMA HD
nVidia GeForce2 w/ 32MB allocated as Video Memory
running windowsXP
I have had the computer for about a year or so now and what do you guys think i can upgrade to make a little faster. I am guessing the GHz but i was wondering how fast i can go. Doesnt the motherboard matter on how fast i can take the Ghz ?

Faster for what? If it is for games upgrading your CPU won't make a differense as your current video card it a BIG bottleneck.

The video is onboard, so there is little you can do about it, unless the motherboard has an agp slot.... being compaq, not likely!
If you know who made the motherboard, you can look up the maximum processor for the motherboard... or go to www.belarc.com download and run the free personal audit and under main circuit board there will hopefully be the motherboard make and model.

noo this is the responce that i got
The Presario 6016US desktop is preinstalled with AMD Athlon? XP Processor Model 1800 (1.53 GHz) and the processor can be upgraded to a maximum of AMD Athlon? XP Processor Model 2100 (1.73 GHz) . That isnt even worth it is it ? Would be better maybe to just get a new board ? (which will have to wait)

I see you got a lot of memory but you could add more.
here's the parts map of the 6000x series.
From the looks of it you could add a better AGP video card.
However I would be wary about upgrading the motherboard as the compaq 6000 case may not be a standard ATX form factor case. In fact the layout of the back ports don't look like the standard ATX layout.
If you plan on any major upgrades, upgrading the Compaq is definately not the route to go. You would be better off building your own custom system.
May the Schwartz be with you

Compaq used a Micro-ATX board on that series model. It does have a 4X AGP slot though. You will not see any performance upgrade by upgrading the processor, but as been pointed out a good vid card would be a major step up from the onboard vid you have now. Depending on how much you would want to spend a nice ATI Radeon 9100 128 meg DDR can be had for around $80. The 9500 series is around $150. Give Price Watch a gander.

Get yourself a new case, motherboard and vid card. You SHOULD be able to migrate everything else over. Just keep in mind that you might pooch windows.
