Geezer
I want a 'value' Inkjet ! Please !....
Ok in the market for a new Colour Inkjet, but I've learnt my lesson, stuff image quality(they all seem to do good enough for me!) - I want cheap to run !!
So thought ladies & gentlemen please ....
Most I want to spend is £200 ($275) or thereabouts, on going costs are definately a 'must know' so I'd be obliged to know the cost of 'standard' refills for whatever model .... I appreciate I can refill cartridges (but I'm not gonna !) & that I can buy 'recycled' cartridges and 'no-name' substitutes, but I don't want any of those thank you! Just 'real' cartridge prices please....
A decent paper feed mechanism would be good too, none of that gravity fed 'ollocks, a proper tray please....
Its replacing an HP deskjet 710c.

that's a pretty hefty budget confus-ed!
if you are going to print a lot of photos I've heard very good things about the epson printers in relation to qaulity and archivability of printed pics.
Cannon tends to be the best value lately in terms of consumable costs.
Lexmark = bad. . . . quality is average . . . . consumable cost high.
I'm an HP man myself. . . . . that may be because we use HPs at work and I get cartridges for free.
but I've got a photosmart 1000 printer and am pretty happy with it. I've heard very good things about the print quality of the 5500 and 7500 printers.
I know I didn't reccomend a specific printer but I hope there is some useful info here

Hi Confus-ed!
Many of our customers swear by the Canon i550,
Or had you considered a colour laser? If you hunt around Exchange & Mart, E-bay, Loot etc, QMS Magicolor 2's can be got in your budget. I've run one for the last 4-5 years and it's far cheaper than an inkjet! Toner carts last for around 10,000 images, and at £86 each (x3 + black) are only 8 times the cost of HP inkjet cartridges which struggle to do 500.

Take a look at the Xerox M series. Individual colour cartridges and a nice quality.

back on topic.
found this bit about the canon 850i
Heavier-duty inkjet. Although the Canon i850 costs more initially than the HP above, ink costs are a bit lower, so if your printer will see heavier use, you'll eventually save money over the HP. And although Canon includes the word "Photo" in its name, the Canon is equally proficient with text pages, quietly spitting out documents at a zippy 7.7 pages per minute, making it the fastest inkjet PC World has tested to date. Cost of consumables is lower because the i850 uses individual ink-color cartridges; operating costs are about 2 cents per text page/11 cents per color page.
11 cents a page for color is pretty sweet as is 2 cents for text.
