Fdisk Problem With Western Digital
Having problems fdisking WD Caviar 23200, 3.2 gig HDD, fdisk info shows 2 partitions,
C: 1 A PRI DOS 2004 FAT 16 65%
2 EXT DOS 1091 35%
It then says EXT DOS partition contains logical dos drives, if I say yes to information it says "no logical dos drives defined,
The problem I have is I can't delete anything, it wont let me delete PRI DOS when EXT DOS partition exists,
I can't delete EXT partition while LOGICAL drive exists, if I try and delete LOGICAL PARTITION in the EXT DOS drive, it says NO LOGICAL DOS DRIVES DEFINED,

Connected it to my system, Partition Magic 8 says : Disc (3098mb 395c 255h 63s) appears to have partitions created using a different drivegeometry (128h 63s) this serious problem can lead to daa loss,
it then goes on to say it can't do anything using PM 8, and then says I sould delete all partitions andcreate new ones under the new drive geometry, bet can't seem to get any joy with FDISK, any ideas?

If the data is backed up - well even if it isn't you can use the zero fill (sometimes called low level format) www.maxtor.com has one in the powermax utils. WD should have one too.
The zero fill will overwrite everything, partitions included.

if the wd utils gave an error number, it means your disk is possibly going bad. you may not want to use that hardisk if you need reliability
check the error code here.

RE RUN Western Digital Diagnostics, got error code 132, system command error which told me to use an older version of DLGDIAG, which I did.
Run extended test, and drive tested perfect, on errors,
Thanks for all the input though everybody.

press the 'edit/delete message' button on 'your post(s)' which you need to change
