    Sound on internet

Win98SE, AMD 2000+, 256 ram. Cannot get sounds off of internet. Sounds within windows works fine. CD Plays fine. But there is a site that this user wants to go to that plays sounds. I have tried everything I can think of. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi zz28,
The problem is not OS related - IMHO it is a mere case of misconfiguration.
    Go to (under IE):
Tools -> options -> advanced (tab) -> go down until you see multimedia portion ->check the "play sounds on web pages" check box.

I believe that this should solve your problem,
    Gabriel

I already checked the setting in IE.

As for the web site. Is it OK to post links here?

....while we wait for the 'errant' link ...

Any error messages ? & do 'games' work ?

And try clicking these links & see if you get a 'noise' ...

Forest Gump - 'life is a box of chocolates ...' -wav

    Batman Theme -midi

The usual problem is that the sounds are 'big' & that the browser hasn't got everything yet ... despite waiting 'ages' ..

Sorry for the delay in getting the link posted. Here it is:
    http://www.med.ucla.edu/wilkes/intro.html

You should hear different heart sound throughout the site. It works on MY PC. BUT not on the one for the user I am helping.

BTW: I DID hear the Forest Gump and Batman themes. But that web site still nada.
    Thanks

How big are the wav files on the site? Is the customer on dialup?

So any volunteers to dismantle the code on that page ...? It plays fine immediately here ... I used cheapo cable (150k) & dial-up .... sounds playing straight away .....

Having 'edited' the code on the site I can't see anything obvious, usually there's some 'wavs' or similar ... but here I see nothing ... there's some javascript I don't understand maybe its hidden in there .... somebody more 'qualified' please

The files are appearently very small. I use dial-up and they start almost as soon as I get on the site.

    <EMBED SRC="images/nsr1.0.wav" AUTOSTART="true" HIDDEN="true" LOOP="true" width="128" height="128" >

Interesting that Mozilla does this with that page

Close this thread please. This user had other trouble and I had to format the drive. After formating and reloading Windows, the problem went away. I think this user had downloaded something that that site did not like. Does not matter now. Problem solved.
    Thanks
