laptop - no video on projector

A user has a compaq presario 1277 laptop running Win98 that connects to a Infocus LP130 projector. At first boot-up, everything appears on the projector, the boot screen and the Win 98 splash screen. But right when the desktop starts to load, the projector displays No Signal, and starts to search the sources for a signal. In the display settings of the laptop there are 2 entries and they are the same thing:
Infocus LP130-A on Trident Cyberblade i7. They are both set to 800 x 600 and High Color.
I also tested this projector on another laptop running Win98 and it worked fine. The laptop was a Gateway Solo. I feel there is some corrupt setting in display that is ruining things. Any ideas are appreciated.

There is a function key and another key on the keyboard that permit you to toggle between the CRT output and LCD of the laptop. Normally you can go from one, to the other, to both displaying at the same time. I judge from your post that you haven’t tried this yet. Look on the keyboard for the “Fn” key, and what ever color it is, look for other keys with that color on it as an alternate for that key. Somewhere you will find the LCD/CTR, or something that looks like two screens, or some other icon. Typically they are alternates to the F keys at the top of the keyboard.

toggle between the laptop panel and an external monitor attached to the system via the Fn+F3 key combination.

If those dont work theres usually an option in video card properties to enable/toggle the external output.
