If MSI reply to your e-mail they'll probably tell you to read the instructions that came with your motherboard!!
These clearly state that for 2000 / XP you must install follow the procedure installing the RAID driver first in a broadly similar manner to your Method #1.
You load the RAID driver onto one disk connected to the normal IDE socket, then move the drive to the RAID, configure, then load the OS.
It worked perfectly for me on my MSI KT333 board.
