OK, you have a set of volume controls come up if you double click the volume icon. What is the WAV control set at? Is the WAV control muted (look at the check box next to it).

The icon is gone. When I go onto Sounds/multimedia in control panel---I can't move it-- it was there prior and then I got a virus and after I cleaned its gone. I ran the drivers disk that I have for my computer and an emergency recovery disk. I refreshed the OS and that seemed to cause more problems than solve--I believe I am getting windows 2000 tonight---as I've heard ME sucks---do you think that will solve the problem?
Thank You so much for helping, I Have been working on this for weeks.

If you do not upgrade to windows 2000, but format and install windows 2000, it should clear the problem. It sounds like you are missing some system files after the virus clean. Formatting and reinstalling ME may have the same effect.

i am not a religous man.. but AMEN to that.
and yes, i agree with NooNoo.. if it is a clean 2000 install, it will take care of the problem.
