Build your own arcade system
Gamespy has an interesting article on building your own Arcade Cabinet for MAME or putting arcade-style into your console games.

Too bad I am not willing to spend a grand+ on assembling this puppy

I`m sure with some MDF,router and matt black you could knock something up for a relativy small amount which would rival the cabinet at least
Nice idea though if you have lots of sprogs

If the game/system was made there is usaually a rom and emulator that will let you play it.

BTW, on another note, how many of you guys would pay if nintendo/sega etc made their own emulators and released original roms? I can say definately and for a fact I would pay.
Id like to see them do something like release a racing pack of roms or an RPG pack. The way I see it, they dont make the games anymore, so why not release the rom images so that new gamers can experience the classics and so older gamers can get back to the beginings. It wouldnt take much for them to program a good emulator and even if they only sold a few hundred thousand copies, thats money they wouldnt have made otherwise.

i dont' have the cabinet, but i have that joystick that comes with it, and it is awesome. i highly reccomend it to anyone who likes arcade games. buy the joystick for $150, and build the cabinet for it yourself.
