Hard Drive not found
Asking this on behalf of friend who's putting together dual processor machine:
ASUS A7M266-d
2 Athlon MP 1900 - 1.6 ghz
100 gb WD hard drive
Plextor CD writer 40x
Award Bios
Sorry if the info is lacking. Friend lives aways from my place and called describing his problem. He has booted the machine from cdrom and trying to load XP but installation stops and says that it could not find the harddrive. BIOS setup to AUTO for Primary IDE master, so the BIOS knows about the drive. Anyone have ideas what he should be looking for?
thanks....d

Check the jumpers on the drive.

make sure there is power going into the HDD
if he has another system have him try the HDD in it make sure its ok.
Just a check: is he running the latest BIOS?

I haven't used that board but it sounds like the XP install isn't loading a driver for the HD controller--You know, where it says press F6 if you need to install a third-party driver?

If the HD is the only device on the primary IDE then I would suggest completly removing the jumper on the HD. I had an issue similar with som Western Dig drives. Hope this helps
