The Challenge

Take a look at the ten images below. Some of them are photographs of real objects or scenes, others are created by computer graphics (CG) artists. Test your ability to tell which among the array of images are real, and which are CG. If you want a closer look, click the image to see a larger view of the picture. Once you've decided what's what, click either CG or REAL to begin the tally of your score. Work through each of the ten images. When you've finished, you'll be prompted to get your score.

By the way, if you make the correct choice for all ten images, you can go to a bonus round or see the answers--in case it was just luck!

8/10 -- I missed the bunch of nails photo and the four glasses of water. I had my doubts about those, too.

Some of them are dead giveaways because CG just doesn't quite do natural objects right yet. You can tell on skin, grass, etc.

By the way, there is another one, along a similar vein. No pun intended. Not for the kiddies!!

I think the problem is its too perfect to be true they d`ont contain enough imperfections like true life objects.

Excellent! Nine out of ten answers were correct

Got the group of nails scattered around wrong.

8 out of 10 correct!

I missed the nails and the grass. Both computer, I said real. The thing that screwed me up was that I was looking for imperfections around edges, like you get when you put one resized bmp over another.

In both the nails and grass I couldn't look for those imperfections - their were too many of them!

Still pretty good!

I got the chess peices and the nails lying down wrong. 8/10. The approach I took to it was to look at the picture as a whole instead of looking for detailed clues. You can almost tell right away by doing that. The nails lying down were hard to tell though because they added a bit of a blur to the image so it could've gone either way. The chess peices I thought were real by first instinct, but just guessed cgi for the hell of it. Anyway, that was cool.
