    Question Network Permissions Question

    Hey All -

I just purchased a new laptop to go with my other 2 PC's. All 2 have XP Pro, the laptop had XP Home. One of the XP Pro PC's is acting as a "server". Tried loading Win2K Server, but couldn't join my PC's to the AD Domain, but thats a different story and post entirely.

Anyway, I decided to temporarily go the peer to peer workgroup route and store my files on the server so I can access them from anywhere in the house if needed.

I setup my shares and assigned my permissions. I can BROWSE the folders that I have created, but cannot write to them (i.e copy files or create new folders) the only way I can make changes to the network folders is to give FULL CONTROL to the "Everyone" group in XP, which is NOT what I want to do, I want some control of the stuff thats on this machine.

I have done in this in the past, I remember being able to have control over who accesses the network folders. I have no problems with the NTFS file permissions on the local machine.

I was under the assumption that if the user names and password matched on all of the machines on the network and you have set the appropriate permissions on the folders you can do what you want.

Am I missing something here? This is HIGHLY annoying!

If anyone can tell me how to setup Win2k3 Server with AD to act as a file server that would be great too.

    Thanks.
